Armed Attack on Church in Burkina Faso, Africa; Many Casualties, Late February 2024

The Turkish internet news site Yeni Çağ [New Age] reported on February 25, 2024, that unknown persons carried out an armed attack during the Sunday service at the Dori Catholic Church in the village of Essakane. The statement, made from the scene of the crime, claimed that in the attack 15 persons perished and 2 were injured.

The Turkish internet news site Haber Global [World News] reported that at least 15 persons had lost their lives in the attack, which it attributed to being a terrorist attack.

The Yeni Çağ bulletin located the village of Essakane as being in the Sahel region’s state of Seno.

The bulletin noted that “as a result of the security crisis that began in Burkina Faso in 2015, more than two million persons have been forced to abandon their homes. According to government data, only 120 thousand have been able to return to their homes.

“Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem de Tambela announced last year that 65% of the country’s territory was under state control.”
