Dmitri Medvedev, former President of Russia and current Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, on November 6, 2024, posted a short, succinct message on Telegram, his communication conduit of choice, briefly commenting on expectations under a Trump presidency regarding the situation in Ukraine as well as relations with allies. The language in which he expresses himself is a crude vernacular, reminiscent of the days of the Soviet Union, when the use of vulgar language was meant to denigrate its perceived enemies.
Medvedev’s post follows [translated from the Russian by LOC]:
About Stubborn Trump
I wrote in Telegram a couple of days ago about the rabid 2-party anti-Russian consensus on Capitol Hill. These assessments are justified, in part by considering that the “elephants” have obtained a majority in the Senate.
But Trump has one useful quality for us: as a businessman to the marrow of his bones, he deathly dislikes wasting money on the various hangers-on and parasites – on idiotic, diddly allies [i.e., Ukraine, first and foremost] , on foolish, philanthropic projects [what Medvedev has in mind would be a guess] and on gluttonous international organizations [assumed to primarily be referring to NATO].
Toxic, [translator comment: the word following ‘toxic’ that Medvedev uses is the surname of the WWII Ukrainian nationalist who fought with the Germans against the Russians, Stepan Bandera, insinuating ‘Nazi’] Ukraine is in this list. The question is, how much will they make Trump give for the war. He’s stubborn, but the system is stronger.
In any case, today the green1 scum in ‘Kiev’2 will be buried in white powder3 up to his ears…[translator comment: 1) ‘green’ = ‘zelyonyy’/зелённый in Russian. Medvedev is making a word play on the name of the President of Ukraine, Zelensky/Зеленский. 2) Putin, Medvedev and their ilk refuse to refer to the city in Ukrainian, “Kyiv”. 3) Medvedev is accusing Zelensky of attempting to escape the reality of Trump’s victory by the excessive use of cocaine]
