Putin Social Media Bulldog Dmitri Medvedev Compares Trump’s Agenda to Soviet Writer Bulgakov’s Satire of Bolshevism, early January 2025

Former Russian President and current deputy chairman of Russia’s National Security Council, Dmitri Medvedev, dedicated his January 9, 2025, Telegram post to a revisionist analysis of Soviet author Mikhail Bulgakov’s anti-Soviet novel, A Dog’s Heart (Собачье Сердце/Sobach’e Serdtse), as related to in-coming U.S. President Donald Trump’s stated goals. In Medvedev’s world, Trump’s agenda represents grandiose plans that he relegates to an expression of “cosmic stupidity.”

Medvedev’s post begins below [as translated from Russian by LOC]:

I don’t know, really, what Trump will be able to do during a second term, but the way he’s beginning is anything but boring.

His calculation is understandable: quick successes in resolving the Ukraine conflict are altogether doubtful; the U.S. economy is living its unhurried life and even the war against migrants does not promise resounding victories.

Therefore, he has simply decided to remake the world. Exactly so – create a new, Trumpian political geography. A new, bright and colorful globe, which is greatly distinguished from the current boring and gray one. All ideas are strictly projected and absolutely unrealistic. And yet.

1. First, the gigantic growth of America: let’s pick up this rural Canada (it will be a nice huge state, then the whole continent will belong to the Yankees) and at the same time, Greenland from Denmark (it’s not understandable, what this is, but there is a lot of land).

2. Renaming the Gulf of Mexico (it’s not important why, simply America is old and the Gulf, due to some kind of misunderstanding, reminds one of Latinos.)

3. The battle with the “rapist Starmer” and “moron Scholz” by the hands of Elon Musk on X. The goal is simple, at no cost whatsoever – you know who’s in charge. Plus, to top it all off, it’s possible to include Britain in the soup bowl of territorial claims of Gringoland.

In this way, still not having become the new U.S. President, Trump won several important virtual victories. But most importantly, he formed his agenda of cosmic scale and, as unforgettable Professor Preobrazhensky would say, of “cosmic stupidity.” But this is only at first glance, especially that in Philip Philipovich’s historical battle for cleaning our closets, the victory remained all the same with Polygraph Polygraphovich [Sharikov]. And no matter that nothing of what has been named will happen today or tomorrow, and the name-calling of the stupid European service staff will be forgotten in a week. Something else is important: the last 10 days of the stay of the senile old man in Oval Office is going according to the scenario of the orange miracle worker Trump. [Translator Comment: Apparently, Mikhail Bulgakov is one of Medvedev’s favorite authors. In his last post, he quoted from this author’s Master and Margarita. Here he is quoting from Bulgakov’s 1925 A Dog’s Heart, a satirical criticism of the newly-formed Soviet Union, which can be equated to the expression “you cannot make a silk purse from a sow’s ear.” The premise of A Dog’s Heart is that Bolshevism, rather than being an agent for transforming a despotic Russia into a cultural and intellectual bastion of freedom and democracy, furthered the country’s downward spiral. It would appear that Medvedev is intimating that Trump’s agenda can compare with the “cosmic stupidity” of Bolshevism.]

In short, the company “Trump, Musk and sci-fi brothers, LLC” has set to work.
